PDO smoothing threads is a treatment that adds volume under the skin to tighten sagging, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and strengthen the skin overall. It is often used in areas of tired skin or skin with a crepe texture, around the eye area, the upper lip, the hollows of the cheeks, under the chin, or around the mouth.

PDO Threads Q & A

What are PDO Threads?

PDO stands for polydioxanone—a polymer protein that is eventually absorbed by the body and eliminated through the digestive system. The PDO threads are thinner than a strand of hair, and are inserted under the skin. The body responds to the threads by adding structural proteins (fibrin, elastin, collagen), resulting in a smoother, plumper appearance.

A PDO thread penetrates the deep into the layers of the skin to produce results including:

  • Collagen stimulation to improve skin texture and elasticity
  • A reduction of fine lines
  • Contraction of the fat tissue to aid in skin tightening

Smooth threads can be done every three to four months and can be a great option for areas where dermal fillers or Botox® can’t be used. It’s also a far less invasive alternative to a surgical facelift, which is both expensive and requires extensive recovery time.
